Principal Engineers


Our principals are co-owners of the company with a combined 126 years of commitment to Schaaf & Wheeler. But they are more than financial investors. Senior Engineers


Senior engineers run their own projects, lead teams, and manage day-to-day tasks. They also interact with clients regularly to verify our products meet stakeholder expectations.

Associate Engineers


Our associate engineers do the heavy technical lifting on projects. With tools like AutoCAD and ArcGIS, they ensure our drafts and reports are developed correctly and efficiently. They use models such as Innovyze ICM, HEC-RAS, InfoWater, and many others to solve complex engineering problems.

Junior & Assistant Engineers


Junior engineers make sure our analyses and designs are completed in cost-effective and innovative ways that meet client expectations, with full support from the project team. Water Resources Civil Engineers - All Levels

We are currently seeking potential applicants for Water Resources Civil Engineers positions to be based out of our Truckee, CA office.

Our positions offer the challenge of developing detailed design documents for unique water infrastructure projects that require creative and innovative thinking, research, and communication to solve new and complex design issues. In your first six months, you’ll evaluate and design small- to large-scale water utility infrastructure projects throughout California, in collaboration with senior staff and principal engineers. This will include preparation of drawings (AutoCAD), specifications, and cost estimates. Your role will also include conducting field investigations, providing construction support services, writing technical reports, completing hydrologic calculations and models, and coordinating projects. You’ll have the opportunity to learn and use GIS and modeling software.

Long-term, you’ll manage projects, perform as lead design engineer, and assist and mentor junior engineers. You’ll learn (or apply your experience) to rehabilitate and replace pipeline and pump station infrastructure. With exposure to a wide range of projects, including asset management, hydrologic modeling, channel restoration, and infrastructure design, you’ll have the opportunity to manage a broad portfolio of interesting work supporting a multitude of clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Work will include extreme precipitation (atmospheric river) modeling, sea-level rise (SLR)and climate change adaptation, and severe storm resiliency.
  • You’ll independently advance multiple projects at the same time, performing research and reaching out for help as needed.
  • You’ll effectively manage your time to meet project milestones/deadlines.
  • A Professional Engineering (PE) license is required for Associate and Senior Water Resources Engineer positions.

Minimum Requirements:

  • For Junior and Assistant Water Resources Engineer positions, previous water resources civil engineer experience is preferred, however having an EIT certificate is required.
  • Seeking candidates with 1-10 years relevant experience delivering civil engineering water resources design projects.
  • Solid water resources engineering coursework is essential, as is a passion for this profession.
  • Previous civil engineering work experience including internships and participation in engineering-related extracurricular activities is preferred.
  • Experience in the following categories is preferred: Detailed designs, plans, and specs for new and rehabilitated municipal and private utility infrastructure projects, well and tank design, and pipeline and pump station design for storm drain, potable water, recycled water, and wastewater systems.
  • Ability to display an interest in designing pressure and gravity pipe systems, assessing pipeline conditions, preparing contracts (including plans, specs, and cost estimates), and providing construction support.
  • Associate and Senior level candidates must display the ability to use their knowledge and skills to manage projects and delegate work to junior team members.

Minimum Requirements- All Engineering Positions:

  • BSCE, BSC&EE, or BSME.
  • EIT certificate at minimum.
  • Self-motivation is crucial — you must be self-directed and like to take initiative and assume more responsibility.

Compensation:

Schaaf & Wheeler offers full-time positions:

  • Junior Engineer non-exempt pay rate will range from $35.00-$40.00 per hour
  • Assistant Engineer non-exempt pay rate will range from $40.00-$45.00 per hour
  • Associate Engineer non-exempt pay rate will range from $45.00-$60.00 per hour
  • Senior Engineer exempt salary will range from a per pay period (pre-tax) amount of $4,807.69 to $6,346.15 (which is equivalent of $125,000 to $165,000 annually)

Preferred Requirements

Solid water resources engineering coursework is essential, as is a passion for this profession.

Previous civil engineering work experience includes internships and participation in engineering-related extracurricular activities.

Proficiency with AutoCAD.

Compensation:

This full-time position has a pay range of $35.00 to $40.00 per hour. All final pay decisions are to be made by the hiring manager, based upon the experience of the final candidate.
